The new Travel Documents Regulations 2019 have come into effect on September 19 to regulate the issuance of e-passports by the Immigration Department.
Anyone applying for a Fiji passport will need to provide a “personal identifier” in digital form and appear in person at the Immigration Office.
Some of the requirements outlined in the Travel Documents Regulations 2019 will affect married, divorced and adopted children who will need to provide documents to the Immigration Office.
An applicant who is married and would like to use his or her married name, the original marriage certificate has to be provided.
“If the applicant is a divorcee, the final court order for dissolution of the marriage,” states the regulation as papers that have to be submitted.
If an adopted child is applying for a new passport, a certified copy of the final adoption order of the court has to be submitted.
A surviving spouse has to provide the original death certificate of the deceased spouse when applying for a new passport.
If the applicant has changed his or her name by deed poll, the deed poll has to be submitted, states the regulation.
With this new regulation, the Passport Regulation of 1971 has been revoked.
